The Head of Communal¡¯ Attitude toward Mentality Handicapped

Abstract
Purpose : This study was aimed at investigating the attitude toward mentality handicapped of the head of communal(Dong and Ri) for the purpose of facilitating the implementation of the community mental health service in Y City.

Methods : Data were collected from the questionnaires returned by 195 subjects, who were Dong and Ri heads at Y City from Feb. 1, 2010 to Apr. 30, 2010. The instruments used was the Community Attitudes Toward the Mentally Ill Inventory(CAMI). Collected data were analyzed with the SPSS program using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient.

Results : The mean score of the attitude toward mentality handicapped of the head of communal was 31.13¡¾5.01. A look at the subfactor of CAMI, demographic variables significantly related to anti-authoritarian power were age, educational background, recognition to community mental health. Demographic variables significantly related to humanity were age, education, and income. Demographic variables significantly related to non-regulation of social life were age, educational background, recognition to community mental health. Demographic variables significantly related to positive concept of mental health service were age, educational background.

Conclusion : For the stabilization and successful implementation of the community mental health service, it is necessary to enlighten the recognition and attitude on the community mental health of the head of communal.
